English communication is an essential life skill on board ship. Around 71% of the company
representatives, on board officers, surveyors, administrators and examiners believed that most
of the seafarers are good. On the other hand, 14% of respondents reported that only a few
seafarers are good. More or less 7% of respondents reported that most seafarers face difficulties
in communication in English.

With reference to STCW rest hours, 37% of the on board crew prepare their rest-hours sheet,
with few alterations to meet the requirements. In the case of almost 16% of respondents,
seniors prepare their rest-hours sheet, which they just sign. However, more than 42% of the
respondents prepare their actual rest hours sheet, which complies with STCW requirements.
